"There was a time when I thought yoga was just a bunch of people who tied themselves into knots. How could tying myself into knots do anything but bring pain or sore muscles into my life? Well to my surprise:
It's not the knots that we get into,
it's the ones that we get out of...
"For life is like one big knot, that keeps us tied to this life that we live in. It keeps us tied to this body, with all its disease and sickness that we have, or may have in the future. It also keeps us tied to this mind of ours, with all its emotions and commotions, its ups and downs, ins and outs, and desires, be they good or bad. So how does one get out of the knots of life?
Kundalini Yoga can untie these knots.

In this stage of life, many of us are finding out that a subtle energy called Kundalini (pronounced Kun-dah-lee-nee), is the true gauge to our health, happiness, and well-being. What is Kundalini? You don't have to look any further than a dictionary to find out what Kundalini is. In the "American Heritage® Dictionary," © 1992 it says that: "Kundalini is the energy that lies dormant at the base of the spine until it is activated, as by the practice of Yoga, and channeled upward through the chakras in the process of spiritual perfection." Kundalini is the energy that connects us to our spirit. It has nothing to do with concepts, religion, or standing on one's head. It's the energy behind all energy: it's called prana by the yogis, chi by the Chinese, ki by the Japanese, and biological energy by the scientist. All we need do is to enable more of this energy to flow into our lives, and we can have a life that is truly healthy, happy, and whole. Kundalini Yoga is the total science of that process. Yoga simply means union and Kundalini Yoga is union with our Kundalini.
"Without having your Kundalini awakened, your soul is not awake If you will get into the actions that awaken the Kundalini, the nerve of the soul, then this car of yours will be driven or chauffeured by the soul and not by the negative ego, and then you will have found 'God' in you. I shall be the greatest man on earth if I shall be privileged to touch the dust of your feet, if you have that state."
Genuine Kundalini Yoga was always kept very secret. One had to live in an ashram, and serve his teacher with many years of hard work, to acquire this remarkable science. Then Yogi Bhajan came to the United States in 1969 to teach this ancient technology and to create teachers. Other teachers teach bits and pieces, but it is only Yogi Bhajan who is acknowledged as a master of Kundalini Yoga. He has taught thousands of student/teachers, who have taught over two million people all over the world. Yogi Bhajan has a Ph.D. in communication and psychology. He is a master of all the different classifications of yoga, including the science of Humanology. He is a very humble yet very dynamic person, with an infinite wealth of information, who has always said:

With over 30 years of experience in Holistic Healing, Alternative Medicine, and Yoga - I have discovered that Kundalini is the energy responsible for all healing. It's the energy that faith and psychic healers use to heal someone. It's the energy that gives our aura its intensity. It's the healing energy behind Acupuncture, Shiatsu, Reiki, Reflexology, and Meditation. All branches of Yoga and Tantra have Kundalini at there roots. Let's take an excerpt from an exceptional book called Kundalini Yoga, the Flow Of Eternal Power, copyright 1996, by Shakti Parwha Kaur Khalsa. She is knowledgeable in all types of yoga, and has studied and taught Kundalini yoga for 30 years. "Kundalini is real. It is flowing through your body right now. There is a vast reservoir of untapped, or 'dormant' kundalini stored under the fourth vertebra of the spinal column. Through Kundalini Yoga we stimulate this energy and allow it to rise up the spine to activate the pineal gland. It enables us to harness the energy of the mind and emotions, so we can be in control of ourselves, rather than being controlled."
Kundalini Is Not A Snake!
At one time, there was great confusion about Kundalini. From being called the serpent power or snake, to being called the Goddess or Shakti, it can all become quite puzzling. If I raise my Kundalini, do I get bit by a snake or embraced by a lovely Goddess? Some books refer to Kundalini as the serpent power, or as potential energy curled three and a half turns, sleeping like a snake at the base of our spine. These are all just metaphors, which come from a creative (female) energy coiled like a snake (or wound tight like a spring), ready to uncoil and travel up our spine. As the Kundalini rises up our spine - it can sound like a "hiss," or the sound a snake makes. When it reaches the pituitary gland, it causes it to pulsate in a 3½ rhythm. This causes our pineal gland to activate and secrete the ambrosia of bliss, awareness, and enlightenment.

So how does one awaken Kundalini? It's through Kundalini yoga that you will learn one of the most effective actions of all, called maha bandha (certain body locks), and certain ways of breathing (called pranayam). With meditations and mantras (certain healing sounds), and even yantras (creative visualizations), it's all quite easy. With certain body postures, stretching, and movements (called asanas), you can even experience the flow of this Kundalini energy through your chakras. These actions, when combined scientifically together are called kriyas.
According to Yogi Bhajan, "Kundalini Yoga has over 8.4 million actions (kriyas) and twenty four hundred thousand million mantras (combinations of sounds) - it is the ultimate body of knowledge."
